PRODUCTION OF ELECTRICITY
Production of electric energy
The total installed capacity of Heron companies is currently 582 MWe.
The first station (HERON I) ), with a total installed capacity of 147 MWe, consists of three (3) gas turbines of 49 MWe each and by design is offering a significant advantage to the interconnected Greek System: that of very quick starting-up reaching its maximum capacity performance in only 20 minutes.
The second station (HERON ΙΙ), with a total installed capacity of 435 MWe, is one of the most up-to-date and technologically advanced stations available in the electric energy production sector. Its operating efficiency is 58%, while the average performance of the gas-fired electric energy production units installed in Greece, is below 54%. The unit’s high efficiency rate is translated to reduced fuel consumption and, therefore, to low gas emissions (CO2), factors that render the unit as the most environmentally friendly electric energy production unit following Renewable Energy Sources (RES).
