Strategic Partnership with Macedonian Paper Mills (MEL) for the Supply of Electricity

HERON, the top producer and supplier of energy in Greece, opens the path for the liberalization of the High-Voltage Electricity Market.

HERON was the first Energy Group in Greece (with two companies producing and supplying power) that broke the state monopoly in the production of electricity, by building and operating two gas-fueled powers plants of a total capacity of 582 MW in the prefecture of Boeotia.

Now, it once again leads the way, with equally competitive rates in the supply High-Voltage Power, by supplying electricity to one of the largest industrial units in Greece, which, until fairly recently, relied on the traditional provider for its electricity.

More specifically, HERON announces a strategic partnership with MEL (Macedonian Paper Mills), which concerns:

  1. The supply of electricity to the facilities and production lines of MEL in the Thessaloniki Industrial Park (VIPATHE), situated at the 22nd km. of the Thessaloniki - Edessa National Road. Thanks to HERON’s competitive electricity supply rates, MEL achieves a significant reduction of its energy costs.
  2. MEL also achieves energy efficiency, thanks to HERON’s specific recommendations and solutions, which will allow the industry to achieve higher energy efficiency scores.
  3. Furthermore, MEL also gains an advantage in the field of electromobility, thanks to HERON’s customized business programs, which provide exceptionally advantageous solutions for charging MEL’s fleet of electric vehicles.
  4. MEL will also be issued a “Green Certificate”, with which HERON certifies that a part and/or the total electricity supplied to and consumed by MEL was produced by specific renewable energy resource plants.

HERON’s product and service package constitutes an ideal solution package for managing high energy costs, which is the greatest problem faced by Greek industries, because it gives outward-oriented businesses the opportunity to enter international competition from a higher vantage point, thus contributing to the growth of the Greek economy.

At the same time, HERON Group of Energy Companies, thanks to the “green services” it provides, is leading the way for the fastest penetration of “green” energy to the Greek market, and also drives the effort to minimize the environmental footprint of energy-intensive industries, while simultaneously contributing to the management of the effects of climate change.
